Statement of solidarity with Ukraine

Press Release

LONDON, 7 March 2022 – As an international professional association, the Berne Union is committed to principles of community, cooperation and partnership, and these direct our mission to promote and facilitate the positive economic impact of cross-border trade and investment, globally.

We are deeply saddened by the current events in Ukraine and condemn the violence directed towards civilians. We stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine, and all those who are currently affected by this condemnable act of aggression.

These actions risk the peace, security, and economic prosperity of the Region and the world.

The Berne Union is an apolitical membership association and firmly upholds fairness and equality among all Members. Nonetheless, this unprecedented situation has provoked deep concerns within our community and numerous Members have appealed for action against EXIAR and EXIMGARANT on account of their representation of the governments of Russia and Belarus respectively, reflecting also the resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly on 1st March 2022.

In the light of the above, the leadership of the Berne Union has resolved to temporarily suspend the membership of both organisations with effect from 7th March 2022, until further notice.
