Press Release: Export credit industry pivots support to strengthen supply chains in the face of an uncertain and volatile global economy with mounting barriers to trade
Dubrovnik, 14th May 2025 – The historically unassailable walled city of Croatia provided a poignant backdrop for the Spring Meeting of the International Union of Credit and Investment Insurers (Berne Union) as a global delegation of 270 participants from 91 institutions gathered this week to discuss prevailing trends in a new environment for global trade and key topics around fraud, conflict recovery, sovereign debt, climate risk, innovation and technology.
‘Resilience’ was the overarching theme for the meeting, addressed by AXA Chief Economist, Gilles Möec in a keynote exploring scenarios for adaptation of the international financial system to a new set of norms, characterised by high uncertainty and a shift from economics to politics as the strong force of prevailing trade trends.
Figures from the Berne Union’s annual State of the Industry Report – released at the meeting – show that despite the challenging environment, new trade supported by Berne Union (BU) members in 2024 reached a record USD 3.3 tn.
